hi all when i have gone for a colonoscopy , my GI only likes using kleen prep which has you starving day before and v.low residue diet day before that then you have to drink nearly 2 litres of thickish vanilla water , i can't do this anymore as i can't keep it down, so was made to go in overnight and be fed the stuff nasally but nose started bleeding and i couldn't cope with the tube so in the end he relented and allowed me to have fleet , which is quick, easy to take not to bad to drink, and you can even have food the day before . oh by the way my hospital won't send bowel prep thru the post anymore, as some was sent out and there dog ate it oh dear. has anyone else had something differant . ps kleen prep didn't always work , fleet certainly does.!!!!!!!!

Hi, I am interested in what you say about the different types of prep. When I had my colonoscopy 2 yrs ago I was given Picolax as prep.  I don't know whether this is like kleen prep, or fleet prep?

I had to eat a low residue, low fat diet the day before the test, and at 6 pm the night before the test I took the first dose of Picolax. I was expecting violent explosive purging to result, as this was the experience I had had 20 yrs before when preparing for a barium enema. (I remember lying on the bathroom floor in agony after the prep 20 yrs ago!)   To my pleasant surprise the Picolax had quite a gentle effect and I spent the next 4 hours visiting the bathroom for 'normal' kind of BMs until my bowel was empty.

Would you say this sounds like the effect the kleen prep would have?  And how does this differ from fleet prep. e.g. is the fleet prep more violent in its purgative effect?   Did you doctor say why he preferred you not to use the fleet prep?   Does it maybe irritate the bowel more than the kleen prep does?

kleen prep is very gentle low residue diet two days before ie only small amount of chicken or white fish small amounts of white rice or pasta no sauce sugar free jelly, black tea or coffee not much else and on day before procedure nothing but clear liquids ie oxo, juice and plenty of water then approx 4 ltrs of vile vanilla water(thick) blooming horrible i couldn't keep the stuff down after 3rd time so tried fleet after i couldnt cope with nasal feed pipe , wow sandwich at lunch day before tea and coffee allowed  till time you take the stuff then you deffinatley need to sit by if not in the loo !!!!!! amazing stuff . I had been having probs with severe constipation due to morphine and diet compaction almost very eye watering and time consuming going to the loo so therefore kleen prep to gentle and then could not tolerate it hence the fleet which is 2 small drinks one day before and 1 in morn if procedure afternoon no starvation and certainly works well
