Hi

Does anyone suffer from water retention?  Is this caused by Crohns?  SInce having an op last November (+ being on 40mg of Pred for months), I blow up, so to speak, but no longer on steroids.  Mainly my stomach but now my face, wrists, ankles and legs.  My GP thinks it's due to the Crohns but doesn't know why and wont give me anything for it.  I've cut down on salt and make sure that I drink plenty of water but nothing helps.  Tends to be worse during flare ups.  Getting me down as I now look like the Michelin man!

Thanks
Lou

Hi Lou,
I haven't suffered this with Crohn's so can't help much. I haven't heard of them being related either. Is your GP sure they're connected? Did s/he say how? Maybe you should insist they check this out.

Hi Gail

My GP wasn't totally sure but I do seem to remember being told by the consultant something about fluid retention, I'll check it out when I see him next, will keep you posted.

Thanks

Hi all,
just abit of info on water retention, after having a bowel resection , I pestered my consultant for water tablets which he reluctantly prescribed (furesimide) My legs returned to normal BUT I ended up in hospital because the tablets were flushing out the elements(potassium, magnesium, etc) So I now do without.
By the way does anyone have bother with potassium levels, and getting prescribed selenase?
Hope This Helps
