hello again everyone, just wondering if anyone else has steroid resistant crohns? I've been on pred at 40mg for ages and my gastro has decided I'm non steroid responsive. I've been on Azathioprine which didn't agree with me. Was due to start 6-mercaptopurine next week. My consultant mentioned Infliximab or Adalimumab, do you take these instead of steroids or are there other steroids type treatments to try.? Sorry for all the questions, I'm seeing doc next Tuesday but would love some clarity in the meantime. If anyone has similar steroid resistance and can shed some light I would really appreciate it. Many thanks

Hi

Very similar story to you.  I'm non steroid responsive, tried prednisolone and budesonide.  Didn't get on with both Aza or 6 MCP, tried 6 MCP twice but became very ill last month.  I did go into hospital to have Infliximab but after being on IV steroids for 5 days the consultant decided an op was my best option.  I had this in November (right hemi colectomy) but unfortunately by January my crohns had come back (worse than before).  Starting methotrexate injections tomorrow for 16 weeks and talking about trying infliximab again.  Although I feel better in myself without being on these horrible drugs, I am going through a major flare up at the moment.  Basically between 20-30 times a day for the past 3 days.  Should really contact my IBD nurse but know I'll end up in hospital again. My consultant is hoping that the methotrexate will control the crohns without having to use steroids.  I'm afraid I don't know about adalimumab, haven't heard of it but like most things, they take time to work (apparently steroids work instantly but not for me for some reason).  Also, I have had every side effect going on all the drugs, don't know if that has anything to with not being able to tolerate steroids.

Hope you get on ok, let us know.
